The Death App

My pal Max recently shared a facebook post linking to the death app: ” Just imagine having your name engraved on a tombstone complete with the year of your birth and year of your death and with the cause of death stated as well. These death causes will surely make anyone get into some fits of laughter”.

I’m not sure Max knows what to make of it, neither do I. I have not had fits of laughter, perhaps because Max is a club cyclist – instead I’ve wondered about why this feels kinda odd. I don’t want Max to die anytime soon (obviously) but maybe it’s useful to remember that we all will, and think about how we’ll be remembered and how we’ll remember pals like Max. In the context of social media, it sure made a change from photos of kittens & puppies, a contrast of frivolous humour and respect for life. I’m not sure what I found most jarring, if not disturbing on some level.

It reminded me of this article from the Huffington Post a few years ago which Is how I first found out about Virtual Memorial sites. One such site offers:  A place where you can build an online virtual memorial in remembrance… Post an online virtual memorial and invite a friend to view it.”  There are plenty of these sites to choose from, Legacy Multimeida in Houston Texas has whittled this down to a top six for you in this handy guide.

I’m going to keep on thinking about this. Lettercarving and how we use memorials to celebrate and commemorate have to evolve  if they are to stay relevant, but I’m not really convinced that this is the way forward. And as for the ‘Death App’, here’s what the developers have to say about it.

The Death App

If the time comes that you will finally leave this world, how would you like to die? Of course, no one wants to die but if you want to look at death in fun way, the Death App from Hukkubandar.com is something that you ought to try.

A simple and easy to use app, Death App can give fun “predictions” of your death, specifically as to how and when you will die. All you need to do is to click on the link to go to the Death App page. Then, enter your name as well as the year of your birthday. Click on Get Result and just like that, you will know how you will die. Don’t worry though because as this app is purely for fun, the death causes are also fun and truly laughable. Just imagine having your name engraved on a tombstone complete with the year of your birth and year of your death and with the cause of death stated as well. These death causes will surely make anyone get into some fits of laughter. If you want to know what these fun death causes are, you might as well check out the app right away.
